Vote For Petro 2008
Vote for Petro is a culture jamming campaign that mocks a presidential candidate. The candidate aims to question the political agenda of our current administration. One can force a nation into war on trumped allegations in foreign lands but has no power to honestly explore the natural resources of his own nation? Unlike the current presidential candidates, Petro addresses the real issue on the minds of America, the price of Gasoline.
A candidate that easily escapes the generalized issues of appearance, Petro is void of race, gender, religious affiliations and loosely acquainted associates that could be detrimental to the candidacy. In some way, we all depend on the candidate Petro and its ability to lead us into the future or simply to the grocery and the commute to work.
The Petro imagery is generic enough to be effective and understood immediately by the viewer as a presidential candidate. The Petro campaign is unapologetic in its ability to capture private and public space. Petro is visible in environments that directly engages the public and offers the viewer a cynical solution. After the initial chuckle, one realizes that we do have a choice. It is our hope that the viewer will be able to question the nation’s dependency on a foreign natural resource that is available on our own land. To ask these questions: Why aren’t we exploring our energy options? Is this just another fear tactic like terror alerts to panic Americans? What’s really going on?
