Great Migration

The Great Migration

This project focuses its interest and investigation in the migratory patterns of African Americans with in the United States. This narrative is the journey of a free people whom after the Emancipation Proclamation left the South with their culture, skills, and traditions to seek futures elsewhere within the continent. The four major movements in this timeline are The first transition from South to North and elsewhere 1910 – 1930 , the second transition from Rural to Urban (1941-1970) , the third transition back toward the South’s urban areas (1970 – present) and the Fourth Great Migration from 2000 – 2020 Black into the future.

This symbolic representation is to demonstrate lineage and the passing of knowledge from one generation onto the next. My interest are in the survival of histories, rituals, and culture. This is what I call the passing of the knife or the seasoning of the Skillets.
